It's been awhile since I've written a blog post for 5&A Dime and as I sit here, I start to think back to when it was our main, if not only, outlet of expression. A lot has changed over the years and we have fought to adapt. During this decade of adaptation, we gave up on some of the things that brought us joy, like the blog.
In 2021 - let's put our best foot forward and bring the JOY back into the brand and in our lives.
I think we are all aware that 2020 was a complete sh*t storm, but if I have to be honest...I found a silver lining. Time in isolation helped me take a real look in the mirror for some welcomed self reflection.
Owning your own business takes a toll on your health if you give it the privilege to. Long days in the office, little-to-no exercise, & late night meals have all become regular and have taken a toll on my mind, spirit and body. The consequences of my actions have led to high blood pressure and borderline diabetes due to poor eating and stress. On top of that I have been fighting with anxiety almost my entire life… and things start to pile up.
The pandemic was a true and honest wake up call. On my new quest it has not only been important to improve my mental and physical health, but to also really dissect what is important to me and my life. I’ve learned to dial in my focus, concentrate my energy on things like reading, cycling, meditation, yoga and breathwork. Ok..ok… this sounds like white people activities and you're probably right. I would have never guessed I would be sitting here telling you that I enjoy yoga and meditation, but god damn it, it's working. I haven't felt this great in a long-long time, and I'm so thankful to be alive, healthy and doing what I love.
Is there a point to this crazy rant?
You just wanted to know about this latest drop and I dropped my midlife crisis on ya. Well, this is me trusting and telling the story to my family. I like to wear my heart on my sleeve and this blog is an outlet for myself and my family to share with you guys the ups and downs, good and bad times. A platform to speak truthfully and honestly; not though some premeditated Instagram post where life looks perfect. It's not, but we want to embrace that and share.
Ok so - this latest collection is a bit of a reflection of most of our current lives. We are all home a lot these days and find ourselves less in corporate uniforms and more in something comfortable. I am making an effort to make more time for curling up on the couch with a good book and some tea. Shoot, even the sweat pants we released are inspired by an old pair of In n Out sweats I practically wear every day! I thought the photos for this collection should show a reflection of the darkness of the world but still share the inner happiness and peace I have found because of it.
Thanks for your time and reading all the way to the end, nerd....
